Tomb of Immolation

The goodies keep rolling in from Zinequest. And yes. I know I’ve blogging a lot about Cepheus. That doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned all the other games I love.

Tomb of Immolation is a tight 96 page adventure for old school games (more towards Swords & Wizardry) and 5E. It included pregenerated characters for both systems. And, of course, stats for monsters and mechanics for overcoming various dungeon obstacles are dual stat’ed. Of course, I’m more interested in the old school stuff.

Since this is adventure, I’ll try to rant about it with as few spoilers as possible. The dungeon itself has a good selection of various challenges for the player characters plus there’s some environmental ones as well. This is something that you don’t see in too many adventures. And there’s a really good selection of new monsters. Based on the pregen characters the dungeon is for around 5th Level but it still going to be a real challenge.

You can’t have new monster and tricks without having new magic items. Let’s just say that the Regalia of Saba Nocri (The main dungeon boss) is pretty cool and not the run of the mill +1 type stuff.

The plot is pretty straight forward. Player characters some how find their way to long lost and forgotten tomb (that’s more like a prison) and let the fun begin. Tomb of Immolation has strong sword & sorcery vibe rather than high fantasy. Smart player characters might just find themselves negotiating with dungeon denizens rather than just hacking and slashing.

As you may have noticed, I don’t touch too much on the artwork of products I rant about. But this is going to be one of the few exceptions. It’s what drew me to the Kickstarter in the first place because it was different. OK, sure. There is some of the Mork Borg vibe going but that’s just the art and not the crazy layout. So like the actual gaming material, it’s different in a good way.

Overall, I’m very pleased with my purchase. Tomb of Immolation is solid dungeon that’s not too big. It’s neat traps and challenges. And new monsters and magic items. It’s well worth a look if like your adventures out of the ordinary and just a little weird.

If you missed out then you can still grab Tomb of Immolation on DrivethruRPG.
