d12’s and d30’s Need More Love

These don’t get enough love. I admit not everybody has a d30. So go out and get a few. But the d12. That’s in standard RPG dice set.

So what about that d12. It doesn’t have to be just the “barbarian” die. First, that generally physically roll well and give just a whee bit more range than a d10. It hits a usable spot for many random tables. In my own games, I use a d12 fumble chart for combat and Arcane Mishaps. I have Grievous Injury random table for when things go really wrong. There’s just the right number options that I can be detailed without getting flaky trying to come up a d20’s worth of stuff. Heck, even while kicking around some ideas, I was considering and x in d12 skill system. You like an x in d6 but with twice the range.

And there’s the d30. Sure this can roll like a golf ball (but not as bad as that mythical d100. Yes I have one.) Many times it does feel overblown but it fills that spot where I want that flat curve for a lot of things. Now folks a lot smarter than me have already done a great jot doing a whole books of d30 charts like New Big Dragon Games. For a long time, I hadn’t really used my trusty d30. Then and idea struck me. Why not a couple of random encounter tables? Heck, I wouldn’t have to 30 entries. Roll once a day, if it’s blank then nothing interesting happened. I haven’t even typed this up. It’s just scribbles in my campaign notebook.

Yeah, it’s very much what you’d consider a working document. Now am I saying you have to use your d12’s and d30’s. Naw. Just play with all the toys you have in toy box. Play with the one’s you like and maybe find other ways to use the one’s that you haven’t played with in a while.

Have fun. That’s really the whole idea isn’t it?

Who’s Passing Through Town?

I had this idea pop into my head about a simple little random table about random folks passing through whatever town or village the PC’s might be in to add a little extra thing that they could do or encounter and then decide put a little twist on it to keep things interesting.

Who’s Passing
Through Town.

Who Are They
Really.

(1 in 6 Chance They
are something else.)

So my HTML ain’t that great and it’s a quick little post. It’s Monday…

Weird Alchemical Ingredients

So a player in my Dungeon Crawl Classics game wants potions and other cool stuff but he knows that his character is as dumb as a rock. So he found a marginally sane and reputable alchemist, “Dr Omnibus” (Thank you Matt Finch!). Said character has volunteered to gather whatever crazy ingredients that the alchemist wants. So I made a random system-neutral table.

Oh and the poor fool volunteered to be guinea pig too. Mwah! Ha! HA!

More Sharp Swords Resources

Yep, I keep making stuff for that upcoming game (which is supposed to happen after the current Dungeon Crawl Classics game). You know, I’m surprised that there aren’t more neat tools for this game so I made some. These aren’t any super special or pretty. I went for plain and useful.
First up we’ve got a GM Cheat Sheet. Not a full screen and has what I think I’ll probably need to refer to the most or just find handy. I’ve combined a couple of charts/tables into one. And I’ve added the “Medium” rest. It’s a house rules and I think someone previously had mentioned on the G+ Community.
I also made a little GM Log sheet to keep track of the key bits of information on the player characters. I admit, I don’t normally do this but it just might prove useful. So here’s the PDF’s.

And yes, that DCC game is still going. It’s just that nothing that warranted a whole blog post happened. And I’ve started putting together some notes for a White Box game which will happen after the Sharp Swords and Sinister Spells game. Yes, I plan that far out.
So keep those dice rolling. Keep killing those monsters and taking their stuff.

Tell Me About Your Elder God

Been thinking about the upcoming Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells game. And of course thoughts of mad elder gods entered my mind. So what the heck make random table for it. I know you’re smart roll dice and do as you will. Even crazier I have the idea to match this up with an additional class for the game.
So here you: Who’s Your Tentacle Daddy?
