Five Reasons You Shouldn’t Play Lamentations of the Flame Princess

I have graduated from the James Edward Raggi IV University of RPG Marketing.

Yes, I did this as lark. You should now by now that I really love the game. And there’s going to be more of me ranting about it. So get used to it.

And yes, it’s been a busy two weeks so I’ve been behind on everything. Thanks for stopping by. I ain’t gone yet.

Knave 2E & The Only Book You Need

Both real life and the day job have been challenging. But things are still moving ahead and I got a little done. It’s time for a video round up.

I got the final PDF of Knave 2E and it’s pretty good. Lots of handy random tables but the system does have a few quirks that I’m not too fond of but that’s just me. The best feature is that it’s so lite on the crunch that you can hack it very easily.

And I went all out crazy with a click bait title. But, at least, in my opinion it’s true. Grab up the Rules Cyclopedia even if you’ve got tons of the rules books. There so much to use, to be inspired, and to learn.

VTT’s Mean The You Don’t Have To Settle & The Cycle of Outrage

Here’s the video recap of the week. I did another short little video on VTT’s. Sure face-to-face gaming is better but I’d rather use a VTT with cool people than face-to-face with a group of jerks.

And then I did this quick one yesterday. I wasn’t planning on it. But ugly people of RPG’s get called out again.

Catching Up on the Video Round Ups

Life has been way too busy during the last two weeks. And I didn’t get around to do this. So here you. A little late but then better late than never.

You know I love White Box Games. And there’s a new one on the street, Macuahuitl.

And let us not forget what WOTC tried to do with the OGL. Never forget. Never forgive. Not another $.

The Sudbury Devil+Lamentations of the Flame Princess

Like others as soon as I saw the trailer for this movie, it just screamed Lamentations of the Flame Princess. So let’s start there with the latest trailer.

It’s a simple story of the village idiot seeing something strange in the woods and then a pair of witch hunters investigate. This is all set with the background of 17th Century Massachusetts. So it’s the right time frame for the implied setting of Lamentations. Plus it’s weird as hell. I’m talking Lamentations weird. Heck, a character gets his rocks off to a magical eldritch rock. Yeah, you read that right.

It’s been compared to a Field in England. I guess you could. The eerie sound track (which you can listen to here), he time period, small cast and budget, practical special effects and so on play into that. But Sudbury Devil does make more sense than Field in England. Well at least, in my tiny brain. Another thing that I learned is that one of the writer/director’s favorite films is Ravenous. You can see the influence in the story arc of Sudbury Devil. Sure it’s got a plot than Ravenous but you can who see the similarities in the way the story unfolds.

Let’s talk on the gaming front. It is a gore-filled tale with some really bizarre sex. Remember, I mentioned the magic rock. It could be amped up a bit into an adventure or at least be used as some inspirational material. Oh there is one scene that reminds me of a certain LOTFP T-Shirt.

Sudbury Devil is a good, low-budget, indie horror film. If you’re a fan of the weirdest of the weird adventures of Lamentations of the Flame Princess then I’d say this movie is right up your alley.

And if you’re word weary and want to hear some of my other thoughts then here’s my video review.

Currently, The Sudbury Devil is available for streaming only on Atun Shei Film’s website.
